Science EXPO

The Science EXPO is an annual Grand View School event organized by parents and the Science Specialist. The goal is to augment the student’s exposure to the sciences through presentations, hands-on experiments, activities, and displays. It is a family event. A nominal fee is requested so organizers can prepare enough supplies.

Presentations:

The Magic of Science:

In ancient times magicians wielded tremendous power in society. Today, of course, we realize that the mysterious world of magic is truly the world of science. All magic is comprised of illusions and the majority of illusions are based on scientific principles. Come with us on a journey of exploration into the science behind the magic.

The Magic of Science allows everyone, both in the audience and on stage, to become a magician. Everything done in this 45 minute program looks and acts like a real magic trick, but the only real trick is that everything presented is science at work. Science studies in chemistry, light, magnetism, optical illusions, physics, and mathematics are all demonstrated. Everything performed has a scientific principle behind it. However, each of these topics will appear to the audience as a challenging and astonishing magic trick. The 45 minute presentations are tailored for each age group (K-8) and will provide appropriate academic content.

The Amazing World of Light

This 45 minute program will allow students grades K-5 the opportunity to see the many properties of light. What is light? How do we use light? What are primary colors? See ultra-violet and infrared light used to create exciting and dramatic experiences. Strobe light is used to stop movement. It is then used to take still pictures and turn them into an animated movie.

The second half of the program is particularly exciting. We have produced a high-end laser light demonstration that will have its own music accompaniment. This demonstration will be full of graphics and words written by a single beam of laser light in many different colors. This is not to be confused with other “laser light show companies” as this is an educational experience, not just a demonstration of a large laser.

Redondo Beach Sea Lab

Traveling Tidepool mobile exhibit. Touch live sea animals!

LA Zoo’s Bug Mobile

Trained naturalists will bring bio-facts and live animals.

The Earth Dome

Mobile Ed Productions is pleased to bring you the newest in educational technology. The Earth Dome is a series of photographs shot from our satellites of the surface of the world on cloud free days. It has been used extensively across the United States to educate students about geographic as well as environmental issues:

Continents, oceans, mountains, rivers, Time Zones, latitude, longitude, geology, plate tectonics

Even major cities in comparison to the total earth will be recognized. Although, the visit to the Earth Dome has to be brief, seeing and understanding the Earth as it appears from space, as opposed to painted globes or drawings, is an experience not soon forgotten.

and Mr. Valentine’s Traveling Animals

Even More Special Features:

Working Catapult, Bubbles, Fossil Dig, Trash to Treasure Art Gallery, Composting and Planting, Accidental Inventions Trivia with prizes, robots presented by Beach Cities Robotics.
