Getting to know Principal Rhonda Steinberg
I was raised in Sherman Oaks, California. My father spent his entire legal career as a deputy district attorney, prosecuting such high profile cases as the Manson murder trial and the Hillside strangler case. My mother was born and raised in France, barely escaped the German occupation and immigrated to the US after the war. My middle brother is a partner in an entertainment agency and my baby brother is a sports doctor in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
I attended and graduated from UCLA during the time that the Johnny Wooden coached basketball teams cumulative record was 88 and 2. Go Bruins! My initial teaching position was in Simi Valley. After my youngest son reached driving age, I accepted a position as an Assistant Principal, also in Simi. I first became a principal in the Castaic Union School District. After five years, at Castaic Elementary, I was tasked with opening a new school in Castaic and remained there for two years until my husband finally convinced me to head west to the beach. Fate smiled upon me, as I was fortunate enough to be offered the principalship at Grand View Elementary.
My family consists of my husband Eric and three terrific kids. My son Sean is a television talent agent with CAA; my daughter recently graduated from Georgetown Law School and is currently an attorney in Santa Monica; and my youngest son, Brad, recently left the field of investment banking to join my husband’s company.
I have spent my life at school. First, as a student, then a teacher, and finally an administrator. I possess a deep passion for my job that continues to motivate and drive me. Not withstanding the inevitable daily challenges, I love the school environment. When my husband inquires about my retirement plans I respond by saying, “Why? This is my passion, I love each and every day and, besides, we have 6 weeks in the year to travel”. Besides travel, I enjoy tennis, bicycle riding, live theatre, spending time with the family and cheering for my Bruins.
