Drop-off & Pick-up Procedures

Grand View’s enrollment is bigger than ever! We need your help to keep your children safe. PLEASE follow our pick-up and drop-off procedures. Failure to do so creates chaos, frustration, and unsafe conditions.

Walk to School

Parking is limited; about 75% of the spots are reserved for staff. As a national Green Ribbon School, we strongly encourage our families to walk to school. See suggested walking routes. A brisk walk in the morning can enhance student learning and has overall health benefits. If you must drive, consider using the less-congested Ladera drop off on Bell Avenue.

Do Not Drive on 27th Street, Manor and Vista

These streets are our designated walking and biking routes to school. They are heavily traveled by our students. These streets will only remain the safest route if we can keep traffic on them to a minimum.

There Is No Playground Supervision Before and After School

Playing on the fields or playgrounds in the morning is not allowed, even if the parent or caregiver is present. Students must arrive no earlier than 8:00 a.m. and must sit at the cafeteria lunch benches until the 8:10 a.m. bell signals it is time to walk to the classroom. Playground supervision is not provided after school.

Campus Gate Schedule

All gates will be locked from 8:40 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. (1:20 p.m. on Wednesday and 12:30 p.m. on all minimum days).  The lower Ladera campus gates will be open from 2:10 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Only students may exit the lower Ladera campus gates for pick up; parents are not allowed to walk up the lower Ladera campus walkway at this time. Please wait for your child outside of the Ladera gate or walk up the 24th street alley to pick up your child at the upper campus.

Other than the 8:40 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. timeframe above, the campus gates will be open.

General Precautions

Please be courteous and follow all safety guidelines at all times.
  • Follow all directions from school safety personnel. They can see potential problems you may not.
  • No arrivals prior to 8:00 a.m. No supervision is provided.
  • Students must be picked-up promptly at dismissal. There is no supervision after school hours.
  • Please turn off your car if you will be stopped for more than 10 seconds. No idling allowed.
  • No student loading or unloading is allowed along Vista Drive, Manor or any other neighborhood streets.
  • Our local streets are very narrow. Please drive slowly and watch for children!
  • No students permitted in the parking lot without an accompanying adult.
  • Use crosswalks to cross streets.
  • Use Loading Zone lanes.
  • Be extra cautious on rainy or foggy days.
  • Dogs are never permitted on the campus, including the parking lot. When picking up your child, please leave dogs at home.
  • By state law, cars may not be left unattended in the white loading zone. MBPD will issue citations to those violating driving and parking laws

Who May Pick Up Your Child

We will not release a student to anyone except the parent, legal guardian or a person you have authorized in writing on the Student Emergency Information Card.

Please provide the office with current and updated copies of all custody agreements and court orders regarding visitation and custody to insure that there is no question about the rights of co-parents to visit or pick up their child.

TK and Kindergarten Pick-Up/ Drop-Off Procedures

All TK and Kindergarten students must be escorted to the classroom by their parent or caregiver every morning and must be picked up from the classroom by their parent or caregiver. Parking is limited so please walk whenever possible. If you must drive, consider parking on Bell Avenue and walking up the ramps.

Please Do Not Wait in the Halls or Outside Classrooms Before Dismissal

Children are to leave the classroom and hall areas promptly upon dismissal. Parents and caregivers should wait on the grass hill above the lower playground rather than in the halls or outside the classrooms in order to keep noise and distractions away from the classrooms.

Dropping Off at the 24th Street Entrance

  • Do not stop at the lower playground to drop-off students. Pull your car as far forward into the Loading Zone as traffic allows. The Loading Zone begins at the upper playground fence and runs the entire length of the school (see attached map). Drivers may drop-off students along the entire length of the Loading Zone.
  • Students may unload from the passenger side ONLY. The driver should remain in the vehicle at all times, and all driver-side doors should remain closed. No trunk unloading is allowed in the Loading Zone.
  • Keep pulling forward and fill in all gaps in the Loading Zone.
  • Have all school materials, including backpack and lunch, ready before the student exits the vehicle.
  • Once your student has exited your vehicle, you may exit the parking lot via the Bypass Lane to the driver’s left. This lane is for driving only — no loading, unloading or stopping at any time.
  • Exit the parking lot by turning right onto 24th street. Only right turns are allowed during school hours.

Picking Up at the 24th Street Entrance

  • Do not stop at the lower playground to pick-up students. Pull your car as far forward into the Loading Zone as traffic allows. Student pick-up is only available from the Loading Zone.
  • Supervisors will call children from the playground dismissal waiting area. Students must wait in this designated area, not on the grass area in front of classrooms.
  • No honking or signaling to students from your vehicle at any time.
  • No cell phone use is allowed while waiting for your child.
  • Once your child has entered your car on the passenger side of the vehicle, please exit the parking lot via the Bypass Lane to driver’s left. This lane is for driving only — no loading, unloading or stopping at any time.
  • Exit the parking lot by turning right onto 24th street. Only right turns are allowed during school hours.

Dropping Off on Bell Avenue

  • Cars are strongly encouraged to use Blanche Road to access Bell Avenue.
  • 27th Street is reserved for bikers. Please DO NOT use 27th Street to access Bell Avenue.
  • Cars should pull as far forward as possible in the Loading Zone.
  • Children should exit from the passenger side ONLY. Cars moving in the Bypass Lane make exiting from the driver’s side extremely dangerous!
