About the PTA

Why Is PTA Membership So Important?

MBUSD is a Revenue Limit District. Only a small portion of our property taxes in Manhattan Beach support education. As a result, MBUSD receives roughly $10,450 per pupil, putting our funding level at the BOTTOM of the state and the country.

With YOUR generous donation to MBEF and the Grand View PTA, we aim to close the gap in funding. MBEF supports Grand View with exceptional instructors and personnel. PTA funds programs, materials, and experiences such as field trips.

With your donation of time and money to the PTA, YOU make Grand View Great.

Q: Do I need to donate to the PTA this year even though we are distance learning?
A: Yes, we absolutely need (and hugely appreciate) your donations! PTA funds so many "unseen" items such as additional training for teachers as they transition to remote learning, technology (i.e. the chrome books and iPads that many students are using now as well as brain pop, raz kids and more!) When we get back into the classroom, the PTA will fund all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) like masks, sanitizing stations and additional cleaning protocols.

Q: If I donate this year will the money be used this year?
A: Yes - PTA works hard to ensure that all funds raised in a school year go to fund the PTA budget for that year.
Q: How much does the PTA spend per child?
A: Last year PTA spent $421 per child; this year we are budgeting $400 per child which is why we are asking for parents to consider making a $400 donation.

Q: What happens if the PTA does not raise sufficient money to fund its budget?
A: Unfortunately, if we do not meet our funding goal, we simply will not be able to pay for the additional programs this year that PTA usually pays for. This may also have a negative impact on next year's programs as well.
